🌠What would you do if you were inspired? Issue 13

Hello friends and family!

What an incredible start to April. Happy Easter to those around the world celebrating. April is such a fun time to be in South Africa, with many public holidays and even more beach days.

(If you ever plan a trip to South Africa, do it in April - great weather, cheaper travel, and a fun vibe)

Before I forget,

hello and welcome

Dose of Inspiration

and tips to

Create A Life You Love and Go Live It

The theme of this week is realigning.

How many times do we have bad days or moments where life knocks us off our feet? School forgets to teach us is that we should take time to realign, find our footing and become stable before we move forward.

Here is how I realign:

  1. Take the day off. (Use that annual leave, mental health days are important)

  2. Go sit in nature, watch the sky, look at trees, watch the waves. Choose whatever space you have close to you, remember nature heals and gives you perspective.

  3. Drink water. (Wine is tempting but water is more effective longterm)

  4. Breathe. Take a few moments to pause and breathe. Breathwork is that one tool that everyone needs yet no one learns. HERE is a link to a breathwork tutorial.

  5. Make a list (Here are some of my themes)

  • Everything matters - write down a list of all the things that matter in life.

  • Things that bring me happiness

  • People who I love and who love me

  • I am... (write down all the things that you are, this is a good one for when you start to doubt how amazing you are)

The aim of the list is to give yourself perspective. Write from an objective point of view. On days where you feel alone a list of people who you love and who love you will remind you that this

"feeling of aloneness"

is all in your mind.

There are so many skills that schools leave out, many that were were not taught by parents as they were not taught this too. Yet the world expects you to be a successful adult. (Can you spot the error in the systems that run the world?)

Remember each week, we are just moving one tiny step forward to creating a life you love.

A note to parents

Teach your kids the healthy skills needed to recover from bad days. There are too many unhealthy ways to escape pain out there which may seem very appealing as they get older.

Who do you turn to when someone dies? Meet Pema Chödrön. This Buddist monk helped me walk back after losing one of my favourite humans. (I still feel weird saying "losing" as if he is lost, but it sounds better than he died. The English language is absurd at times)

During the first few months after my friend died, I got this book recommendation,

My immediate reaction to this woman was to consume all her videos, articles, and meditations.

She was the first person to tell me to locate the pain in my body. Then to breathe it in and be open to it. Everything in me first resisted this in anger. I did not want to feel it. (I was still in denial)

Eventually, her voice and messages made sense. There is no point denying pain and hurt in life. It's all part of life and it's all temporary. It eventually passes. This is life.

She is one of many monks around the world who are sharing insights and perspectives to dealing with life.

Artists Who Inspire

 Artist: Skip Closer

Back to surrealist art. Why? Because it is my favourite escape from the reality of the world we live in.

Natacha Einat is one of those artists whose mind I want to live in. Just imagine walking around in this world, where moons float like balloons and people can touch stars.

Song of the week

Happiness in a song! It's one of my recent finds and it brings me so much joy. All I can see when I listen to this, is me dancing on a beach with a live band. I may or may not have a salsa partner, but what I do have is a live band, summer heat, and beach sand under my feet...oh and I am happy! For this week when you listen to this one, close your eyes and picture your happy place. Now go there in your mind. Remember when life gets heavy you have music and your mind to transport you to your happy place.

In case you don't have Spotify, HERE is the Youtube link to it. (A big thank you to Brian for his sponsorship of the necessity of a Youtube link)
