🌿 What Would You Do If You Were Inspired? Issue 182

💫 A Dose of Inspiration

Hello friends and family,

The road to 200 issues of Dose of Inspiration. I can see it now; looking back at its a weird feeling. I wonder what I would have done differently and if I have any regrets… Maybe I’ll make a video about it.

Anyway …happy week! I hope you are well and happy.

This week's theme is “to-do bucket lists”

Today I found this list…

A few years back I made a list of things I would like to experience. On the list were two things…that I can tick off. One was to live in Mexico and the second was to travel through South America, both of which, at that time were so far away.

There are so many things on the list, small goals like attending a Super Mario salsa class or bigger ones like owning an art gallery. Some still feel very far from reach.

What I like about these big dreams …you never know what will be achieved.

Your task this week:

  • Make your big dream list of things …it’s never too late to start making things happen.

  • And if you feel called …reply and share it with me. Would love to see if there is anything I can support you with.

Remember each week, we are just moving one tiny step forward to creating a life you love.

🤙🏾 Inspiration Labs

Inspiration Labs is a 1-hour call where we dive into your project, career, life, or big dream. This free session is to gain clarity, dream bigger, and walk out with 1 action step to start moving forward. This is the value I am adding back to the world 💫

I will open new sessions weekly for this. To have this available to everyone, you are allowed 1 session only. (Sorry I wish, I had all the time in the world to only do this but I have to work too)

Because this week we need to laugh…if you have not seen any of Uncle Roger’s videos …now is the time to go binge some. This is one of my favourites because I have eaten all of those things at those spots in Malaysia. Also, Anthony Bourdain was one of my favourite humans. Enjoy!

🎨 Artists Who Inspire

Just wow! I went on a hunt for new artists in the pattern world. The maximalists whose work shares a deeper meaning and I found her. Meet Alia Ali, a Yemeni-Bosnian American artist. What a fusion of cultures. Then there is her current work which I will share below…

“Since the start of the was in Yemen- 2015, I have been working on The Yemeni Futurist Archive. For the first three years I documented and researched the worst humanitarian crisis that everyone turned their heads from. Three years later, I chose to depart from the suffering and embrace the beauty of my culture. Since 2018, I have been developing an archive that is made up of a variety of artworks that encompass sculpture, fashion, photography, writing, video and sound. Finally, they are slowly coming out of the studio.

For this one- I’ve been researching the collections of ancient Sabaean artifacts that were looted from the Kindgom of Sheba (modern day Yemen and Ethiopia). These were objects that were commissioned by Queen Belquis, the Queen of Sheba- 3000 years ago.

In the 1960s, a man by the name of Wendell Phillips, otherwise known as “the looter”, was sent by the the British Empire to collect ancient artifacts. (side note: Indiana Jones’s character was based off of Wendell Phillips). The objects were later found in the Sackler Collection, The British Museum, The Met and the Smithsonian. Provenance is still “under research.” - Taken from notes on her Instagram

There are so many pieces to uncover with her work, from the art to the patterns and histories shared and her work classifying “stolen” art from countries with no voice to recover them. One artist who can steal hours of my time as I set off to read up on every detail that she includes. Take a moment and go dive into her work.

🎶 Song of the week

Shout-out to one of my favourite artists. Wandile is from the Eastern Cape of South Africa, my home region. I met him at a bar in Cape Town many, many years ago. He was playing and I remember walking out of my house that day in search of magic. I most definitely found it when I bumped into him.

Here’s his new song …” Time will tell”…enjoy!

Wanna jump back in time? This was the song he was playing that day - Lovers like you.

“After receiving this message from his spiritual leader in Istanbul, Turkey, at the age of just 30, Gift of the Givers founder, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, immediately heeded the calling… and continues to do so to this day.

Following that life-changing day in 1992, Dr Sooliman returned to South Africa, left a flourishing career as a medical doctor and established the Gift of the Givers Foundation.

In the intervening years, he has travelled to some of the most desolate, war-torn and disaster-struck areas of the world, heading relief missions. Through his work with Gift of the Givers, he and his teams have responded to the needs of countless people affected by a wide range of natural and man-made disasters, such as floods, famine, tsunamis, earthquakes and wars.

He has facilitated the establishment of hospitals, run clinics, created agricultural schemes, dug wells, built houses, developed and manufactured an energy food, renovated fishing boats, offered scholarships and provided food and shelter to millions.”

Final thoughts:

Take care of your health. It’s really the most important thing! For you and for those you love!

“There comes a time when the world gets quiet and the only thing left is your own heart. So you'd better learn the sound of it. Otherwise you'll never understand what it's saying.”
