💫 A Dose of Inspiration
Hello friends and family,
I hope you are well. I am back from a self-inflicted time-out. I needed a week to work and rest. In short, many stressful moments over the past 11 weeks ended with 3 deaths in my friends and family circles, and life was doing the most for me. A timeout seemed appropriate.
There is not much you can do when faced with the death of a loved one; you drink water, try to sleep, and then breathe while your brain makes sense of living life again.
I am still not in the living life fully space, but I am in a better time-out zone.
This week's theme is “Time Out.”
I had a different theme in mind, but when I started typing this, it felt more appropriate to share how I do time-outs, and maybe if you need it, it will help you in times of overwhelm, too.
Firstly, I must say, you create your world, and you can make a timeout look like whatever you need it to be.
The first sign I noticed was my mindset being very negative, my comments seemed to find the worst problems, and even the inner voice was starting to bug me. I don’t really feel like big crowds, so I cancelled all my events. I had planned to host 2 Dose of Inspo conversation nights. On top of this, it was hard to focus, and every task was a mission to complete.
Now I am no stranger to this space. When Damien died, all the signs were the same. This time, I am just better equipped with strategies to deal.
So first, I cleared my calendar and cancelled all plans with anyone new, aka anyone not in my life for a while. I made work the only priority. Then allowed myself to sleep early, rest as much as I wanted. I meal prepped enough food for 3 weeks. Who knows how long this will last, but even groceries can seem overwhelming in this space.
Then I took it slow, I spent a day in the park reading and Sunday lying on the bed. I journaled with no intention. Intention is hard. And in this time-out, I found that doing nothing helps.
For work, I pulled out my Pomodoro app and stuck to 25-minute cycles of work. Having to cycle through things in small doses and not a full 2-hour deep work session helped. No pressure, I did what I could and when I couldn't, I rested until I could again. I am getting through my task list but at a slower pace, and this, for now, is okay.
I know a time out is not forever, and I am giving myself the grace to breathe life back into me.
Your task this week:
Create a plan for your time-out moments, what does it look like, what will feed your soul, and have this saved as a note on your phone.
And if you need it, give yourself a time-out.
Remember, each week, we are just moving one tiny step forward to creating a life you love.

This is a longer video, so maybe have it playing in the background while you prepare dinner. Chef Jose Andres is one of the most inspiring people on earth. And during this time when certain people are being pushed into a man-made famine, it’s a moment to think about the access to food and why it is that some hold this power over others.
🎨 Artists Who Inspire
Sarah K. Benning

This is one of the best embroidery artists I have seen, I love her mix of colours and it’s contemporary (fun fact, not much I have not seen much in this space), this is a new genre of art for me. But work is so beautiful, and I love her plant series.
Check it out on her website below.
If you have any favourite artists that you want to share, send them my way anytime.
🎶 Song of the week
What a beautiful treat, welcome to the magic of Buena Vista Social Club. I love the Tiny Desk concerts so much. Imagine that someone had an idea one day to do a concert in an office, and then it turned into this magic.
What ideas are you snoozing on?

Not for beer purists. This is a Michelada with extra toppings. A beer, but mixed with lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings. Sealed with chamoy and sesame seeds. And yes, it’s served as a 1L cocktail. One of Mexico’s gems.
✌🏾 Pay it forward

Final thoughts:
We made it halfway through the year. This is something to be proud of and something to celebrate. As we wrap up May and enter this next chapter of the year, take a moment to write down everything that you are proud of from the last 6 months.
